Minooka High School

You may or may not be questioning why Minooka High School has received its own page. If so, the answer is simple: It is the school I graduated from in 1996.

I played four years of high school football. From those four years, I played four different positions; cornerback freshman year, safety sophomore year, wide receiver junior year and tight end senior year. I mastered none of them. But I did learn one of the craziest, but most effective and offensive offenses used today: The Double Wing.

Gordie Gillespie of College of St. Francis fame passed this scheme down to his protegee. And Minooka High School was where his protegee got his start as head coach. This coach went 12-8 over the '95 and '96 seasons, 6-3 both years during the regular season and 0-1 in the playoffs. Then he moved on to bigger and better things.

I'm not certain what his record is at the school he moved on to, but I think he has won 5 or 6 state championships at the helm there. By the way, it's Dan Sharp of Joliet Catholic.

Anyway, after Sharp left, Mike Briscoe took over and lead the Indians pretty well. Most noted was the 2002 season when he took his boys one game from playing in Champaign for the title. Bert Kooi took over from there and he is leading them rather nicely.

Another tough year for the Indians is in store, but one we're looking forward to. Here is the Indians regular season schedule.
